Storage & returns

Storage and returns: three clocks, and one return window

Tomebuy's own pages give three different answers for free storage length. Here is all three, sourced, plus the separate return window once goods are stocked.

Three official answers

The clock starts from the order status changing to “in storage,” but how long it runs depends on which Tomebuy page you read:

Three different free-storage lengths, each printed on a current Tomebuy page
  • 60 days, per the Tutorial, the After-Sales Service agreement, and the International transit help article. The Tutorial and After-Sales pages both say goods are discarded or destroyed once 60 days pass without the parcel being submitted.
  • 90 days, per the dedicated Storage policy page, which adds that a reminder email goes out at the 60-day mark, well before the stated deadline.
  • 180 days, per the Order Questions help article, with a reminder email at day 150.

A fourth, narrower clock applies to parcels Tomebuy receives with no matching order on file: these get 60 days from the “signed for” status, after which they are treated as abandoned because there is no order to match them to a user.

Use the storage-clock checker to work out all relevant deadlines from your own “in storage” date, since there is no way to tell from the account itself which of the three applies.

If you need more time

Storage can be extended in 100-day blocks for ¥20 each, bought by noting the order ID in the remarks when purchasing the service. Tomebuy's help text is explicit that each purchase adds a full 100 days, not a partial period, so buying this once well before any of the published deadlines is more reliable than waiting to see which deadline turns out to be real.

If several items are stored and you only want to extend one, the order ID in the remarks field is what scopes the extension, so a vague note risks the wrong item getting the extra time. Tomebuy's help text asks for the exact OG number for this reason.

Returns and refunds

Tomebuy's Returns and Refunds agreement sets a five-day window after an item is stocked in the warehouse, tied to a seller-side seven-day guarantee it references but does not fully reproduce. For a return where there is no quality issue, the buyer covers shipping both ways, to the seller and back, plus a flat $0.75 service fee. The agreement does not separately itemise what happens when the return is for a genuine quality problem; it is written around the no-fault case.

Five days is short enough that it is worth checking QC photos the moment they post rather than waiting. If the inspection photos already show the problem that would justify a return, raising it immediately through the Orders page keeps the request inside the window; waiting until the item is already queued for shipping risks missing it entirely.

Insurance, briefly

An optional parcel insurance covers three situations, each with its own disclaimer: delay insurance pays out 20 percent of the shipping fee if a parcel runs more than 30 or 40 days late (depending on the route) for reasons within Tomebuy's control; customs-hold insurance and loss-or-damage insurance pay compensation based on the parcel's declared value and the shipping fee, up to the insured amount. All three exclude delays or losses caused by the recipient's own actions, such as not cooperating with local customs clearance.
