Fees: the three-layer bill, and the yuan rate behind it

Tomebuy's service fee is stated as zero. That does not mean one payment: here is the full cost breakdown, in the order the charges land.

The service fee itself

Tomebuy's own Service & Fees page states plainly that it charges no handling fee on top of the item cost, international shipping and customs charges. What you pay beyond the item's own price is the seller's domestic delivery (folded into checkout), freight once a parcel is submitted, and a customs declaration charge that runs about ¥8 a parcel, varying with the shipping method used.

“No handling fee” is narrower than “free,” worth separating. Tomebuy still earns on the optional extras covered further down this page, on whatever margin sits inside its fixed exchange rate, and potentially through the undocumented referral rate in its own settings. None of that contradicts the zero-handling-fee claim; it just means the claim is about one specific line item, not the total cost of using the service.

Three payment layers: at checkout, at parcel submission, and after the parcel lands

Tomebuy's own yuan conversion

Tomebuy's own settings publish fixed conversion rates: 6.50 yuan to the US dollar, 7.50 to the euro, 8.60 to the British pound. These are site settings, not a daily market feed, and Tomebuy does not publish how often, or under what rule, they get updated. If you are used to prices converting at the live market rate, budget for Tomebuy's own figure to run a little higher.

How you pay

The published channel is an international credit card, routed through a payment channel provided by PayPal. Tomebuy's help centre does not list a full menu of alternative methods. Account balance can be topped up directly and later withdrawn; a withdrawal is quoted at 10 to 15 working days, though Tomebuy's own Account Assets help article adds that bank processing can push this out to 25 working days in practice.

Balance also absorbs the small adjustments that come up mid-order: an overcharge on freight once a parcel is actually weighed gets credited back to it, and an undercharge gets deducted from it automatically, with the parcel held until the balance covers the difference. Keeping a small amount of spare balance avoids that hold.

Optional extras, with their own prices

A handful of optional services are priced on Tomebuy's Value-Added Services help page, each bought by checking it at parcel submission or by note in the order remarks:

ServicePrice
Personalised photo (a specific angle or detail shot)¥2 per photo
Priority purchase (handled within 4 working hours)¥5 per order
Extend storage¥20 per 100 extra days
Reinforcement for fragile goods¥10 per item
Pre-packaged weight check before shipping¥18 per parcel
Vacuum packaging, for bulky soft goods¥20 per parcel

Parcel photos showing the item before and after packing are listed as a free service if you check the box when submitting a waybill; left unchecked, no photos are taken by default.

Coupons and rewards

Tomebuy's Account Assets help page lists three ways shipping coupons come about: taking part in whatever irregular community activity is running at the time, entering an invitation code at registration, and general participation in community activities. None of these carries a stated face value, so treat a coupon as a bonus rather than something to plan a budget around.

Separately, the Tutorial page describes a review-video reward: post a review video of your Tomebuy experience somewhere public, drop the link into the account's Reward section, and Tomebuy says it will pay out up to 100 percent of that order's total cost (item plus shipping) as cash. The page gives no detail on review criteria or how the payout is actually calculated, so the published figure is a ceiling, not a guaranteed amount.

What this page does not print

Tomebuy's line-pricing interface returns figures that read as demo-style data (prices under a dollar for international couriers, route notes that do not match the route names) rather than live rates, and the separate freight-quote endpoint returns an outright failure message on every test. Because of that, this edition does not print any shipping-line price. The mechanics of how freight is calculated, consolidation savings, and customs thresholds are on the Shipping page instead, each tied to a real worked example rather than a number that cannot be verified.
